UFC 126: Cerrone overcomes the snubbing
Never skimp on the sportsmanship when it comes to Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone.
Paul Kelly tried it, and for five minutes, it worked. But Cerrone got past it, and submitted Kelly by rear naked choke 3:48 into the second round of their lightweight bout at UFC 126 in Las Vegas on Saturday night,
Throughout most of the first round, Kelly landed solid strikes as he seemed to pick apart Cerrone's stand-up defense. It started just as the fight began when Cerrone walked to the center of the ring to offer the customary good-luck glove touch. Kelly faked a response with a soft, half-hearted glove touch with his left hand, then threw a right hook that connected. On his way down, though, Cerrone (14-3) got the takedown on Kelly.
"Yeah that was cool, right?" Cerrone said about the fake show of sportsmanship.
Upon Cerrone's response to the in-ring interview with Joe Rogan, Kelly (12-4) came over and tried to explain his actions. Cerrone didn't really seem to care, likely because he just finished Kelly using his impressive jiu-jitsu skills. Cerrone took Kelly down midway through the second round, then fought for a body lock. Once he got that, Kelly was done. Cerrone got the rear naked choke and held on tight to force the tap.
