UFC 152: Matt Hamill outlasts Roger Hollett in return to MMA
Matt Hamill's retirement from mixed martial arts didn't last that long -- about 13 months.
Relatively speaking, it took him much longer -- 3 minutes, 10 seconds -- to use his wrestling advantage over Roger Hollett and shoot in for the takedown in their UFC 152 light heavyweight bout Saturday night in Toronto. He spent the remainder of the round throwing significant strikes with left hand.
But he couldn't finish Hollett. Not then. Not in the second round, either. Nor the third. Those 13 months away from being a full-time fighter left only fumes for Hamill in the last 10 minutes.
Hamilly, however, is a dominant wrestler and could still manage enough takedowns to win the unanimous decision. The judges scored the bout, 29-28, 30-27, 30-27, in favor of Hamill (12-4).
