Brian Bowles entered WEC 47 as the bantamweight champion, so it's a typical first-take approach to say he lost the title.

Not this time.

Dominick Cruz won it.

Cruz brought the fight to Bowles, landing big head shots and leg kicks through two rounds and won the WEC bantamweight title in Columbus, Ohio. After the second round, the doctor at ringside stopped the fight because Bowles had a broken hand.

"The first punch I threw in the whole fight, I broke my hand," Bowles said. "I knew it right away."

Not the way people want to see a belt change hands, but Cruz (15-1) dominated Bowles (8-1) in the first two rounds.

Any chance this is reactionary after Urijah Faber broke both of his hands against Mike Brown last year yet still fought all five rounds?
