'You prepare for Chuck Norris, and Bruce Lee shows up'
Nick Vaughan said something rather interesting in the immediacy of his knockoout win Friday night at Muay Thai at Mecca: “When we train for fights, no research. We’ve got 30 seconds to figure out our opponents.”
Wait, so Vaughan, who trains under Kru Phil Nurse at The Wat in Manhattan, doesn't pay attention to his opponent's past performances before going into a Muay Thai fight against him? Based on what we're exposed to with every sport, doesn't this seem a bit crazy?
Vaughan was in the crowd shortly after his win, back in street clothes. Perhaps it was that super middleweight championship gold around his waist that made him easy to spot amid the 3,203 fans at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.
The 28-year-old Vaughan, a native of Barbados who now lives in Brooklyn, gave this analogy when asked to explain further how he doesn't study his opponent before a fight: “You prepare for Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee shows up, then what are you going to do?”
