NO. 1: STEVE JANASZAK, G

An investment manager who lives in Babylon, Steve Janaszak, 58, was the only player on the 1980 team not to see any action, but he said this past week, “I had the best seat in the house at the greatest sporting event of the 20th century.” Janaszak (pictured here in the background) played three games in the NHL for the North Stars and Rockies.

Ken Morrow, 58, is director of pro scouting for the Islanders, with whom he won four Stanley Cups. Lives in Kansas City.
NO. 5: MIKE RAMSEY, D

Mike Ramsey, 54, is retired and lives in Minnesota. Was a four-time NHL All-Star in a 14-year career with the Sabres. Also played for the Penguins and Red Wings. Was an assistant coach with the Sabres and North Stars.

Bill Baker, 58, is an oral surgeon in Minnesota. He played for four NHL teams, including the Rangers.

Dave Silk, 57, is an investment manager in Boston. Silk (pictured above at far right) played with the Rangers, Bruins, Red Wings and Jets and was an assistant coach at Boston University.

Neal Broten, 55, is a retired horse farm operator in River Falls, Wisconsin. He played 17 NHL seasons for four teams, including the Devils.

Mark Johnson, 57, coaches the University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team. Played in the NHL with the Penguins, North Stars, Whalers, Blues and Devils. Coached the United States women’s hockey team to the silver medal in the 2010 Olympics.

Maqrk Wells, 57, was diagnosed with a degenerative spinal disease and has undergone several medical procedures. He ives in St. Clair Shores, Michigan.

Mark Pavelich, 56, became a land developer in Minnesota after retiring from hockey. He played under Herb Brooks with the Rangers and North Stars.

Jack O’Callahan, 57, works as an investment broker in Chicago. O'Callahan (pictured at right) played with the Blackhawks and Devils from 1982-89.

Eric Strobel, 56, had part ownership of a golf club in Fifty Lakes, Minnesota, before retiring. His pro career short-circuited when he suffered a broken ankle while playing for Rochester; he then became a telephone sales executive in Apple Valley, Minnesota.

Bob Suter operated a sporting goods store in Wisconsin; died of a heart attack last September. He was 57.

Phil Verchota, 58, is senior vice president of First American Bank in Willmar, Minnesota. He played in Finland after the Olympics but returned to the U.S. team in 1984.

John Harrington, 57, is a scout for the Colorado Avalanche and lives in Minnesota. Played minor-league hockey and on the 1984 Olympic team.

Jim Craig, 57, is a motivational speaker based in the Boston area. He played briefly for the Flames, Bruins and North Stars.
HERB BROOKS, Head coach

After the Olympics, Herb Brooks went into the NHL, where he had coaching stints with the Rangers (four seasons), North Stars, Devils and Penguins. He coached the French Olympic team in 1998 and later returned to the U.S. team, which won the silver medal in 2002. Brooks was killed in a one-car accident north of Minneapolis on Aug. 11, 2003. He was 66.

Craig Patrick, 68, is a special adviser with the Sabres. At 34, he became the Rangers’ youngest general manager. Coached the Rangers and Penguins but had his biggest NHL success as GM of the Penguins, who won the Stanley Cup in 1991 and 1992. In 2005, he was responsible for drafting 18-year-old phenom Sidney Crosby.
