Cole Palmer shows off outrageous talent with 50-meter pass for goal in Chelsea win
LONDON — Cole Palmer scored Chelsea's winner against Newcastle in the Premier League but it was a pass he delivered for his team's other goal that was all the talk on Sunday.
Facing his own goal inside Chelsea's half, the 22-year-old England playmaker span round and curled a 50-meter pass behind Newcastle right back Tino Livramento to send winger Pedro Neto clear.
Neto then crossed for Nicolas Jackson to put Chelsea ahead in the 18th minute.
“It is the reason why people pay (to come), they want to see that kind of player," Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said. "We are very happy to have him.”
Working as a pundit on British broadcaster Sky Sports, former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher called it “one of the best passes I’ve ever seen in the Premier League.”
Alexander Isak equalized for Newcastle but Palmer drove home his seventh goal of the season in the 47th to secure a 2-1 victory for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
With five assists, Palmer has a league-leading 12 goals involvements this campaign. He has been involved in 45 goals in 42 league appearances since joining Chelsea from Manchester City last season.
Asked whether scoring or creating made him happier, Palmer said: “Both — if we score from any of it, then I’m happy.”
