Colombian soccer player James Rodriguez is the World Cup’s top scorer, but he’s getting even more social media attention thanks to a giant insect that landed on his arm mid-match.
After scoring a penalty against Brazil in Friday’s match -- his sixth goal in the entire tournament -- Rodriguez celebrated with a fist pump, apparently unaware that a huge green insect had landed on his arm.
The insect, which appears to be a humongous grasshopper, garnered a flurry of social media activity. More than 15,000 tweets were sent Friday including the words “James Rodriguez insect” according to Twitter trends site Topsy.com. Fans also created Vine videos and Photoshop parodies.
