Devils lead partner expects to keep team
The managing partner of the New Jersey Devils has no desire to sell the NHL team and expects to maintain a controlling interest. Devils chairman Jeff Vanderbeek says he and his partners have different visions for the franchise, and the minority owners Brick City are exploring a sale. Brick City is the legal name for the Devils share owned by Ray Chambers and Mike Gilfillan, his son-in-law.
Golisano is selling Sabres
Sabres owner Tom Golisano agreed to sell the NHL franchise to Pennsylvania businessman Terry Pegula. The team announced the agreement, but details were not released. The Buffalo News reported the agreement, which is subject to league approval, includes $175 million for the Sabres and an additional $14 million in liabilities.

All-Star game awarded to Red Bull Arena
The Major League Soccer All-Star game will be played at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., on July 27. The opponent will be announced later. In recent years, MLS All-Stars have played European clubs making preseason tours of North America.

Stony Brook extends Priore contract
Stony Brook announced that football coach Chuck Priore has agreed to a contract extension through 2016. Priore's previous deal had him leading the program through 2013. Priore is 28-27 in five seasons at Stony Brook.
Storm women win
Nadirah McKenith had eight points, including a jumper with nine seconds that gave host St. John's the lead in a 51-48 win over Rutgers. Amanda Burakoski led the Red Storm (16-6, 5-4 Big East) with 16 points. Rutgers is 12-9, 5-3.

Nadal tore leg muscle at Australian
Rafael Nadal will need 10 days to recover from a leg muscle injury sustained during his quarterfinal loss at the Australian Open. In a statement Nadal's handlers say a scan revealed Nadal tore a muscle in his right leg during last week's defeat to fellow Spaniard David Ferrer. - AP

Stephen A. Smith returning to ESPN radio
Stephen A. Smith, a rising star at ESPN in the mid-2000s who left the company in 2008, will return as a radio host in New York and Los Angeles and a columnist for ESPN.com beginning this week. Smith's weeknight show will be heard on 1050 ESPN from 7 to 9 p.m., with a concentration on the NBA. Smith will assume the time slot previously occupied by Bonnie Bernstein, whose last appearance was tied to the conclusion of the AFC Championship Game.
