CiCi Bellis, the 15-year-old from Atherton, California, who took out 12th seed Dominika Cibulkova in the first round before losing in the second, lost in the second round of the juniors Tuesday.
Natalia Vikhlyantseva of Russia beat her, 7-6 (9), 2-6, 6-1, in the Grandstand, which served as the Open's convection oven Tuesday. Court temperature had to exceed 100 degrees and the players got a 10-minute break between the second and third sets.
It looked like Bellis might get steamrollered, going down 2-5, love-40 in the eighth game of the first set. She saved those set points and three others in the tiebreaker before losing it.
Williams sisters lose
Serena and Venus Williams were knocked out of the doubles, losing to Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Serena double-faulted on match point. She also had to have her right ankle taped in the second set. Serena, the two-time defending champion, plays Flavia Pennetta in the quarterfinals Wednesday night in the first match in Ashe Stadium.
Azarenka free of injuries
Victoria Azarenka isn't afraid to speak her mind. She's had to deal with foot and ankle injuries that seriously disrupted the first half of her season, but she's come back strong in the Open, making it to the quarterfinals Wednesday against Makarova.

Azarenka has lost the last two years in the final here to Serena Williams. She was asked if she was somehow enjoying the tournament more this year by coming back from what "you've suffered."
"You make it sound like I went through, I don't know, that I almost died and there was 10 sharks and I got attacked and survived," Azarenka responded. "And, you know, I saved a dolphin as well. It's not that complicated. What I enjoy is to play tennis. To be talking about what happened with my injuries, it's useless already."
