New ride The Flash launches at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey 

Thrill-seekers looking to conquer a new coaster are in luck: Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township, New Jersey debuted  The Flash: Vertical Velocity on March 29. 

Inspired by the fastest DC Comics superhero, The Flash, the ride is dubbed a "super boomerang coaster" and travels at 60 miles per hour, says Ryan Eldredge, regional manager of public relations for Six Flags Great Adventure New Jersey. "A "super boomerang" is a design model from the ride manufacturer Vekoma," Eldredge says. "It is super because unlike its predecessors it launches you multiple times forward and backward before returning to the station."

Riders will ascend 172 feet in the air and experience a 180-degree twisted drop.  They'll be launched back and forth seven times, flip upside down four times and experience 10-negative-gravity moments, says Eldredge. Riders must be 48 inches to ride.

The park plans to add other new rides in the upcoming years and to say goodbye to old favorites to make room. In February, Kingda Ka, which opened in 2005, once considered the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world, closed down due to a variety of factors like "maintenance of the ride and upkeep," notes Eldredge.  

New things to explore at the park includes an updated water park area for kids at Hurricane Harbor and the addition of three baby giraffes at Wild Safari. 

Daily tickets start at $39; gold season pass ticket is $85 and includes unlimited visits throughout the season to Six Flags Great Adventure, Hurricane Harbor New Jersey and Wild Safari.
