Summer may be coming to a close, but shoulder season is in full swing. Local inns and hotels in the Hamptons, Fire Island and on the North Fork are offering fall deals worth the trip.

Shoulder season has essential perks including fewer crowds, less traffic, hotel deals, foliage and sweater weather. Travelers can explore restaurants, shops and hotels that may have been busy during the summer but have since cooled down in the offseason.

From a free stay to discounts at nearby attractions, here's where to book a staycation.
