New York City is home to creepy-good Halloween fun all month long. Here are some good bets, depending upon what kinds of chills, thrills and spills you seek.
Haunted houses
BLACKOUT HAUNTED HOUSE: Two rules, one of which terrifies us: Participants have to walk through by themselves and need to be aged 18 or older.

BLOOD MANOR: You'll navigate dark corridors within a 5,000-square-foot space in Hudson Square, dodging zombies and accompanied by an adult, if you're younger than 14.

Parades
TOMPKINS SQUARE HALLOWEEN DOG PARADE: Take your costumed canine, take your camera, get ready for the cuteness.

VILLAGE HALLOWEEN PARADE: Feel the history of 40 years of freaks and geeks, ghouls and ghosts converging in Manhattan.
When | Where: From 7-10 p.m. Oct. 31, it runs along 6th Avenue from Spring to 16th streets. To join in, come in costume and enter on 6th Avenue between Canal and Spring streets starting at 6:30.

Parties
WEBSTER HELL: Expect all four floors of Webster Hall to be in the spirit, and even if your costume doesn't quite allow for dancing, fire performers and spillover from the Village Halloween parade will provide plenty for you to simply sit back and watch.

PHANTASMAGOREY 2013: Don your Victorian best for a celebration of all-things Edward Gorey, backed by a live jazz soundtrack.

Family friendly
THE AMAZING SCAVENGER HUNT FOR HALLOWEEN: For about three hours, you'll follow clues and navigate obstacles for a mental and physical challenge that mandates a costume with sensible shoes. A smartphone is also a must, as the hunt is app-driven.

HALLOWEEN HARVEST: Coney Island's Luna Park keeps things festive with a variety of activities (pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating) and performances all month. Grab the kids early on Oct. 26, when, starting at 10 a.m., Food Network's Marc Maniac and friends will carve a giant pumpkin; contests (pie eating, pumpkin carving) will occur throughout the day.

PUMPKIN FEST: This cauldron of activities includes the NYZ (z is for zombies, naturally) haunted house, Quidditch matches, marionette shows and other performances, a farmers market and all sorts of opportunities to get crafty (pumpkin carving, puppet making). Of course, Fido will want to hit the PUP-kin area featuring a canine costume contest and agility course.
