A Ronkonkoma man, who Suffolk County police said was the "intended target," was shot and killed Friday morning outside his home on Wildwood Road.

Terry Long, 32, was found shot outside his home in Ronkonkoma at 8:50 a.m., Suffolk police said in a statement.

Long had "started his car, went back into the house, came back to his car, and a number of shots were fired at him, at his car and at the house," Suffolk police Det. Lt. Kevin Beyrer, commander of the Homicide Squad, said at a Friday afternoon news conference near the shooting scene. "We believe he was the intended target."

Long was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are reviewing video footage from the area, Beyrer said. Because police are still investigating, Breyer would not say how many shots were fired nor how many times Long was hit.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
