Lake Success to get stop signs by EMS project site

Last week, North Hempstead's town board approved the addition of two stop signs at a Lake Success intersection that residents raised traffic concerns about last year after the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire District proposed building an ambulance station down the block.
One stop sign will go up on eastbound Cumberland Avenue and the other will be on southbound Allen Drive. Voters approved $10 million in bonding for the project in a special election in October.
Town Councilwoman Christine Liu previously said Woodbury-based Cameron Engineering, which did a traffic study of the area for the fire district before the special election, recommended the stop sign installations to the town last year.
She said a town engineer looked at the issue and agreed.
A fire district commissioner said in a March interview that the volunteer firefighting and EMS outfit is waiting for Lake Success village officials to approve building plans before soliciting construction bids for the 10,366-square-foot facility slated for Cumberland Avenue.
The village's approval remains pending, according to fire district officials.
They said before the special election that the volunteer outfit, which covers 11 villages within its approximately 10 square miles of territory, needed a new facility because of crowded conditions at the firehouse that currently houses its ambulance operation.
