Long Islanders can look forward to a seasonably mild spring Sunday bookended by chance of showers, but then Monday they are expected to see mostly sunny skies and temperatures that will make it feel like summer.

Sunday will start off in the high 40s before climbing to about 67 degrees, just 4 degrees above the normal high for the day in Islip.

Sunday will also bring a slight chance of precipitation before 11 a.m. and a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. During the day a south wind is expected between 7 to 9 mph.

A night the temperature should drop to around 54 degrees.

Monday will be the warmest day so far this year, according to national forecasters.

"If you're out east it's going to be in the 70s," National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Goodman said Saturday evening. "It'll be the 80s and warmer the more west that you go. The highs will be in the mid-80s in the city."

"It'll be short-lived, though," Good man said. " There's a cold front coming in. We're going to cool down to normal or a little below for Wednesday and Thursday."

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with temperatures in the low 60s throughout the day and low 50s at night. There is a 40% chance of rain after 8 p.m.

Wednesday will feature mostly cloudy skies with high temperatures in the low 60s during the day before dropping to about 47 degrees at night, according to the weather service.

Thursday is expected to be sunny with a high of around 63 degrees and a low near 50.
