Jordi Fernandez has reportedly added a significant name to his coaching staff: former Michigan coach Juwan Howard.

ESPN.com reported that Howard will join the Nets as an assistant coach. He spent the past five seasons at Michigan before being fired in March after an 8-24 season.

Howard was 87-72 at Michigan and led the Wolverines to an Elite Eight appearance in his second season in 2021. That season was also Michigan’s first Big Ten regular-season championship in seven years.

Prior to being hired in 2019, Howard served six seasons as an assistant with the Miami Heat after he retired from his playing career in 2013. Howard played 19 NBA seasons, was an All-Star in 1996 and his final two years ended with championships with the Heat.

Howard is the second known assistant on Fernandez’s staff. ESPN.com also reported Steve Hetzel will join the Nets after serving the last three seasons as an assistant with the Trail Blazers.
