70°Good Morning

The Smithtown Youth Bureau is seeking nominations for its second annual Global Youth Services Day on April 30.

At last year’s event, 139 young people — from kindergarten students through high school graduates — were honored for their participation in 21 community service projects and events. One group, for example, said Patsy Hirschhorn, executive director of the town department, had collected shoes to donate to victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Nominations for individuals or groups will be accepted until April 15. Each nominee must be under the age of 21 and from Smithtown, and the project must have been completed.

“We’re giving the kids the opportunity to know the good work they’re doing is cared about — the whole community is very proud,” Hirschhorn said.

More information and applications are available at the Town of Smithtown website or by calling 631-360-7595.
