Labor Day may have passed, but summer weather isn’t over.

After a brief period of showers on Saturday, Long Island should prepare for a string of dry weahter and hot temperatures in the coming week, the National Weather Service said.

On Friday, we’ll see partly sunny skies “once the morning clouds kind of burn off” by mid-to late morning, said meteorologist Dave Radell. Temperatures will reach the upper 70s, close to 80.

But the first part of the weekend will be a different story, as a chance of light rain will linger from Saturday morning into the afternoon. There’s also a small possibility of a thunderstorm, but Radell said Long Island will only receive up to a quarter of an inch of rain.

“We're not expecting big rainfall,” he said. “If there is a thunderstorm, you can get a little more rain out of that, but that's looking very isolated at best for that kind of scenario.”

A high rip current statement is also in effect for all ocean-facing beaches until 9 p.m. Saturday.

The showers should clear out by Saturday evening, which will be the start of more summer weather.

“Then, the nice stretch begins — basically Sunday through about next Thursday — of dry conditions, mid- and upper 70s for most of those days,” said Radell.

The days will progressively become hotter with Wednesday and Thursday reaching the low 80s, and Friday feeling even warmer.
