John Murcott has joined the board of directors of the Long Island Community Foundation, a nonprofit organization that identifies community needs, strengthens the Island's nonprofit sector and encourages philanthropy. The Port Washington resident is co-founder and chief executive of Karma411, a provider of online campaigns to raise funds and awareness for causes.
EDUCATION
Michael Arens has been appointed assistant vice president of government and community relations at Stony Brook University. The East Islip resident joins Stony Brook from the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory, where was manager of state and local government affairs.
REAL ESTATE
Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty in Cold Spring Harbor announced the addition of two licensed sales staff. Matthew Avelar, of Woodbury, held a similar position at Lex Realty in Syosset. Allison Pehel, of Glen Cove, was a licensed saleswoman at Gold Coast Realty in Locust Valley.
