A historic home built in 1695 on 1.3 acres in Southampton Village and renovated in the late 1990s is listing for $11.95 million. The eight-bedroom, 8½-bath house is on South Main Street in the village’s historic district near shops and restaurants, a block from ocean beaches. Annual taxes are $33,367.

Known as the Edward Foster Homestead, the property was bought in the late 1800s by Foster, part of a family that owned about 1,500 acres in and around Southampton.

The home’s next owner was Pauline Sabin, a socially prominent activist who campaigned to end Prohibition. She bought the property in the 1920s and donated it to the Southampton chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, which owned it until 1996.

Farhad Hakimi, the next and current owner, is a dentist who used it as a summer and weekend home and is selling since his children have grown. “The house was totally a shack,” Hakimi said. ”It just was a summer house and didn’t have the basement and no heating and cooling systems.”

A two-year gut renovation entailed getting proper permits since the home is in the historic district and included adding a basement and expanding the house from 1,500 to 8,000 square feet, Hakimi said. He replaced windows and doors in the same sizes and shapes as the original ones.

The home, listed by Pat Garrity of The Corcoran Group, is zoned for the Southampton Union Free School District. It has hardwood floors, original wood-beamed ceilings, an eat-in kitchen with custom cabinetry, an octagonal family room, card room with paneled walls, and a full finished basement with wine cellar. There’s an inground pool, spa tub and detached two-car garage with storage loft.
