Rich Cribs: Musician Joe Lauro selling home, and more
JUKE JOINT FOR SALE. Musician and filmmaker Joe Lauro is selling his renovated 1911 home and barn on Shelter Island for $2.45 million.
The six-bedroom, 3 1/2-bath house, originally the childhood home of local politician Evans K. Griffing, sits on 6 acres with a three-car garage and water views.
After purchasing the property 12 years ago from the Griffing family, Lauro restored the house and renovated the barn. He has since turned it into a "juke joint," where he hosts benefit concerts featuring musicians such as the Hot 8 Brass Band. The building’s separate well and cesspool make it ideal for use as an artist’s studio or guesthouse.
The property is listed exclusively with Melina Wein of M. Wein Realty Inc.

BIG SALES. Three big Hamptons real estate transactions recently closed just in time for summer, according to the Long Island Real Estate Report.
On June 1, the estate of businessman M. Michael Kulukundis sold a home on Meadow Lane in Southampton to a limited liability company for $25 million. Kulukundis, who died in September 2010, was a member of the Greek shipping community and a pioneer in the mobile technology industry.
That same day, the same LLC purchased an additional 5 acres of land just across the road for $1 million. The seller is listed as the Estate of Calliope Kulukundis, his mother, who died in 2006.
According to public records, the six-bedroom oceanfront home, known as The Bouwerie, is on 5 acres. It was once the home of Dr. Wesley Bowers, who commissioned the Mediterranean-style villa in 1930. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Another limited-liability company snagged the East Hampton home of investment banker John Berg for $20.45 million. Berg, founder of Dorset Capital, sold the 2-acre Old Beach Lane property on June 10.
It seems that every Hamptons home has a Billy Joel connection — and this one does too. In 2002, the Piano Man reportedly reneged on a deal to buy the property, losing his $2 million deposit in the process.
