Gold Coast Book Fair returning in May

Chapter two of the Gold Coast Book Fair is in the works.

Following the success of the inaugural event in June, organizers announced on Tuesday that the second annual Gold Coast Book Fair wiill take place from May 16 to 18 with numerous programs happening at Long Island University and in downtown Oyster Bay. The book fair is a project of Gold Coast Forum, in collaboration with Oyster Bay Main Street Association, Long Island University and Theodore’s Books. Bethpage Federal Credit Union is also a major sponsor.

“The first Gold Coast Book Fair exceeded all of our expectations," said former U.S. Representative Steve Israel and owner of Theodore’s Books in Oyster Bay, in a statement. "It proved that Long Islanders want to celebrate our literary heritage and establish our region as a major event for authors around the country. I’m excited about building on our success in May."

The June event featured talks with several prominent authors, many of whom hailed from Long Island. Among the literary lions on hand were Freeport-raised author Erik Larson; Alice McDermott, who grew up in Elmont; Susan Isaacs who lives in Sands Point; "Firing Line" host Margaret Hoover; and CNN history commentator Douglas Brinkley. Next year's guests will be announced at a later date.

The lineup will again also include live music, food and more author events at many of the businesses in downtown Oyster Bay.
