Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling says her first book for adults will be called "The Casual Vacancy."

She says the book will be set in an English town called Pagford that is not as idyllic as it seems on the surface.

The book published by Little, Brown & Co. will represent her first post-Potter offering. She is credited with creating one of the most successful fictional series in history with the saga of the boy wizard.

The publisher said Thursday the new book will be available worldwide on September 27.

It will be sold as an e-book and also as a traditional hardback volume.

The publisher says the book will be "blackly comic."
