Amanda Bynes' parents may be considering conservatorship, report says

Rick and Lynn Bynes, the parents of troubled actress Amanda Bynes, may be considering a conservatorship for their daughter, similar to the one created for Britney Spears in 2008 by the singer's father.

The Los Angeles Times said Wednesday that the 27-year-old Bynes' parents, who have publicly expressed concern about their daughter for more than a year, have discussed the possibility. A conservatorship is a legal instrument in which one or more family members or other responsible parties control basic decisions in a person's life, including where they live and funds they can access.

Bynes was hospitalized by police Monday night for an involuntary 72-hour mental-health evaluation as allowed under California law, after Ventura County sheriff's deputies found her in a Thousand Oaks, Calif., driveway where, they said, she had set a small fire.

Law enforcement officials told TMZ.com Wednesday that Bynes will not be charged with a crime, and that police and prosecutors view her conduct as non-criminal.
