Chris Martin alludes to Gwyneth Paltrow split, says he 'wasn't completely vulnerable'
Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin on Monday talked about his life in a way many have taken as being his first public comments on his breakup with wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
"I think in life everyone needs to be broken in some way," he told BBC Radio 1 in an interview promoting Coldplay's new album, "Ghost Stories." Without mentioning his actress wife -- who with him announced last month that they were separating after 10 years of marriage and two children -- he said, "I think everyone in their life goes through challenges, whether it's love or money, kids or illness. You have to really not run away from that stuff."
Martin, 37, said his personal issues informed some of the writing on the new album. "Up to a certain point in my life I wasn't completely vulnerable and it caused some problems," he said. "If you don't let love in then you can't really give it back."
