David Attell to bring city club spirit to Huntington comedy show

Get the experience of witnessing a late-night stand-up set at a city club when you catch the Comedy Underground with Dave Attell tour at The Paramount in Huntington on Friday.
"I want it to be as pure as possible -- completely uncensored and unfiltered," says Attell. "We are not particularly family-friendly. It's adult humor that's not politically correct."
The tour is based on Attell's Comedy Central show of the same name, which runs on Saturdays at 1 a.m. in the spring. Attell serves as the host who will bring up Russ Meneve, Luis J. Gomez, Mike Vecchione and Big Jay Oakerson. Each comic does a 20-minute set bookended by Attell's comedic riffs.
"I'm the ringmaster," says Attell. "I try to get the scene as hot as possible for these guys. I want them all to kill."
The vibe of the show is a raucous romp that plays loose and fast, letting the audience in on the action.
"I like when it's a more kinetic experience. It is cooler when you don't know what's going to happen," says Attell. "You are going to see unplanned improv exchanges. The audience will watch us all attack each other in a free-form way. I'm trying to bring back some spontaneity to comedy."
Attell, who grew up in Rockville Centre, says he is looking forward to returning to home turf.
"The people on Long Island are brutally honest, but fun. I like that," he says. "I try to play Long Island at least once a year. It's refreshing and quite different from Manhattan."
With everybody being so PC these days, Attell is hoping Long Islanders will be ready to cut loose at his show.
"The future will not be a funny place. We are headed for a sterile, bleak, bland world of apps and data mining," says Attell. "This is the last roundup of hard-edged comics."
