Drake publicly discusses being a father

Rapper Drake has spoken publicly for the first time about the year-old son he referenced on his June album, "Scorpion."

"Crazy blue eyes, baby blue eyes," the Grammy Award winner told basketball star LeBron James and James' business partner, sports and entertainment executive Maverick Carter, on the HBO interview show "The Shop" Friday.  

"Y'know, he's already in the pool, like, shooting a basketball, y'know what I'm saying?" Drake, who turns 32 on Oct. 24, continued. "I'm telling you," he said, laughing, "he's gonna get to a certain age, I'm gonna bring him right to 'Bron's house! I'm gonna be like, 'Yo, summer camp at Bronny's house -- see you later!"

On Saturday, Drake invited the NBA champion onstage during his concert at Los Angeles' Staples Center. James, who also shared the stage with rapper Travis Scott, was visibly enjoying himself in the same arena where he'll soon play as a Laker. 

French artist Sophie Brussaux, 29, formerly a video-striptease performer under the name Rosee Divine, last year announced she was pregnant with Drake's child. The initially skeptical rapper soon accepted his paternity, and on the "Scorpion" track "March 14" sings, "I had to come to terms with the fact that it's not a maybe . . . the kid is mine / Sandi used to tell me all it takes is one time," a reference to Drake's mother, Sandi Graham, who divorced his musician father Dennis Graham when Drake was a child.

Later he sings, "Single father, I hate when I hear it / I used to challenge my parents on every album / Now I'm embarrassed to tell them I ended up as a co-parent." He appears to give Oct. 11 as the birth date, rapping, "October baby for irony sake, of course / I got this 11 tatted for somebody, now it's yours.” The song also indicates Drake had seen the child on Christmas.

Without identifying either Brussaux or their son, whose name is widely reported to be Adonis Mahbed Graham, Drake conceded to James and Carter, "As life takes shape and teaches you your own lessons, I end up in this situation where I don't have the fairy tale, like, 'Oh, Drake started a family with Rihanna and this is, like, so perfect.' "

But he embraced the family dynamic, explaining, "I am a single father learning to communicate with a woman who, y'know, we've had our, we've had moments, right? I mean, I do want to be able to explain to my son what happened. But I don't have any desire for him to, like, not love his mother. . . . Like, we have found ourselves in a situation and we are both equally responsible and now, like, I'm just really excited to be a great father. I have a son, he's a beautiful boy, I gotta show you guys," he added proudly, showing off a smartphone photo of the child.

Drake also revealed his trepidation in telling his mother, "because my mom has had real belief and real relationships with women in my life, like over the course of my years, that I'm sure she would expect or be elated if I were to have gotten one of those women pregnant! . . . So it was tough for me to tell her that it’s somebody that she's never met."
