Justin Bieber takes paternity test
Teen pop star Justin Bieber has voluntarily taken a paternity test in an effort to confirm he is not the father of accuser Mariah Yeater's 3-month-old son.
E! Online said Monday it had confirmed a report by TMZ.com that Bieber, 17, had given a DNA sample Friday at a New Jersey lab. TMZ said the test was done under highly controlled circumstances with a solid chain of custody. Yeater, 20, must now provide DNA results for her child for a paternity determination.
Bieber has consistently denied knowing the Southern California woman, who recently dropped the paternity suit she had filed on Oct. 31. Yeater's attorney Jeffrey Leving said last week he was retaining the option to refile. Howard Weitzman, Bieber's attorney, has reportedly told Yeater's counsel that the singer was considering a countersuit.
Bieber's spokesman did not respond to a Newsday request for comment.
Yeater had alleged that a backstage tryst following a 2010 Bieber concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles had led to the birth July 6 of Tristyn Anthony Markhouse Yeater.
After giving his DNA sample, Bieber flew to Los Angeles to attend the Saturday rehearsal for the American Music Awards ceremony, which he attended with his girlfriend, singer-actress Selena Gomez, on Sunday.
