Chris Rock on hosting Oscars: I’m only here ‘cause Ellen DeGeneres said no
Oscar host Chris Rock is staying firm with his assertion that he’s not doing any interviews before Sunday’s much-anticipated show. Nevertheless, The Hollywood Reporter has just released an interview with Rock conducted in December (before this year’s nominations were announced). And as you might expect, the comedian still managed to say some interesting things.
How far will he go? “We haven’t really got into that, yet,” Rock said. “You’ll probably say something more risqué at 10:30 than you will at 8:30. Right now I’m just concentrating on the movies. You know, what’s the subjects that are big right now in Hollywood.”
And he added about the pressures of being a host: “You can do a pretty decent monologue and be funny two or three other times throughout the show. You’ll be fine. If you get off on the wrong foot though, it’s a real hard hole to dig yourself out of.”
Rock also joked that he was the second choice to host the 2016 ceremony. “I’m only here because Ellen [DeGeneres] didn’t want to do the show. I’m only here cause Ellen said no. And I’m sure she said no like eight times.”
