Demi Moore to play Gloria Steinem in 'Lovelace'

THE DEAL The 49-year-old actress, recently seen in last year's well-reviewed drama "Margin Call," will play iconic feminist Gloria Steinem in a biopic about Linda Lovelace, who starred in the groundbreaking 1972 pornographic film "Deep Throat," according to TheWrap.com. Adam Brody ("Scream 4") will play Lovelace's co-star, Harry Reems, and Eric Roberts also will appear as a lie-detector expert. Amanda Seyfried already has signed on to play the lead, while Peter Sarsgaard will portray Lovelace's husband, and James Franco will play Hugh Hefner.

THE DEAL A trailer for this French-produced, science-fiction romance hit the Web earlier this week, only to be squashed within hours by Warner Bros. The odd-looking film stars Dunst and Jim Sturgess ("One Day") as lovers from mirror-image worlds kept apart by opposing gravity; Sturgess spends several scenes with his head pointing floorward, at least judging by one French-language trailer still available on YouTube. "Upside Down" is scheduled for release in France by Warner Bros., but, according to the Los Angeles Times, no American distributor has been named. A spokesman for the studio did not return a request for comment.
THE EVENT Long Island Biennial
THE DEAL The second installment of this art and film exhibit, a joint venture between Huntington's Heckscher Museum of Art and the Cinema Arts Centre, has been scheduled for July. Cinema Arts is accepting submissions through April 30 from filmmakers who live in Nassau or Suffolk counties; the entry fee is $65. Returning jurors include Livia Bloom, a curator at Manhattan's Maysles Cinema; film distributor Michael Tuckman of mTuckman media; and filmmaker Alexandra Brodsky.
