Emily Blunt is in demand
WHO Emily Blunt
THE MOVIE "All You Need Is Kill"
THE DEAL The British actress, who recently starred in the Jason Segel comedy "The Five-Year Engagement" and the Ewan McGregor drama "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen," is now so in demand that she may co-star with Tom Cruise in this action film, Variety reports. It's based on a Japanese novel about a soldier battling aliens who is forced to relive his final day of fighting over and over -- shades of "Groundhog Day" -- and becomes an increasingly skilled warrior. Doug Liman ("The Bourne Identity") is set to direct.
WHO Octavia Spencer
THE MOVIE "Fruitvale"
THE DEAL The newly minted Oscar winner ("The Help") is in talks to star in this topical indie film about a 2009 police shooting in California's Bay Area, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Produced by Forest Whitaker, the film dramatizes the story of Oscar Grant, an unarmed young black man shot in the back by a subway cop at a station in Oakland's Fruitvale District. Michael B. Jordan ("Chronicle") is in talks to play Grant; Spencer would play his mother. In the wake of the February shooting death of Trayvon Martin, "Fruitvale" is set to begin production in July.
THE MOVIE "Casablanca"
THE DEAL Talk about playing it again: The 1942 classic starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman as war-torn lovers celebrated its 70th anniversary with a one-night screening less than a month ago, but apparently enough people missed it that it's back for a second screening. This time, you've got plenty of warning and time to plan: The encore screening, with a prerecorded introduction by Turner Classic Movies host Robert Osborne, isn't until next week.
