WHO Spike Lee
THE MOVIE "Da Sweet Blood of Jesus"
THE DEAL The director's first horror movie is now available through Vimeo On Demand, a month before its theatrical release. The cost is $9.99 for a 24-hour streaming rental or $14.99 to own. Lee's reworking of the Bill Gunn cult film "Ganja & Hess" stars Stephen Tyrone Williams as Dr. Hess Green, who encounters a cursed archaeological artifact that gives him a thirst for blood. Lee raised $1.4 million through Kickstarter to fund the film. It was originally scheduled for a VOD release on the same day as its theatrical release, Feb. 13.
THE MOVIE "Interstellar"
THE DEAL Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic received much criticism for its sound mix, which intentionally boosted music at the cost of dialogue. One IMAX theater even posted a notice assuring moviegoers that its sound equipment was functioning properly. Nevertheless, "Interstellar" impressed the Cinema Audio Society, which on Tuesday included it in its five nominees for best sound mix of 2015 along with "Birdman," "American Sniper," "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Unbroken." The group's eventual winner -- to be announced Feb. 14 -- often matches up with the Oscars' pick.
THE MOVIE "Watership Down"
THE DEAL The 1978 animated version of Richard Adams' enduringly popular novel is the rare case of a movie that stays deeply faithful to its source. The allegorical tale of a tribe of rabbits who must find a new home, featuring the voices by John Hurt, Ralph Richardson and Denholm Elliot, was a hit in Britain but remains little-seen in America. It screens as part of the "Cinema for Kids!" series, though parents should take note of its dark themes and PG rating.
INFO Sunday at noon at Cinema Arts Centre, 423 Park Ave., Huntington. Tickets are $11, free ages 12 and younger; 631-423-7611, cinemaartscentre.org
