The Smashing Pumpkins will reunite and take their “Shiny and Oh So Bright” tour on the road, including an Aug. 1 date at Madison Square Garden (tickets go on sale Feb. 23 at noon).

The long-rumored reunion — the classic lineup’s first tour since 2000 — isn’t without some controversy, though. Lead vocalist/guitarist Billy Corgan will team with guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, but original bassist D’arcy Wretzky won’t be along for the ride. (Corgan says Wretzky refused the invitation, while Wretzky asserts Corgan didn’t invite her.)

The tour — which will feature songs exclusively from the band’s first five albums — will mark the 30th anniversary of the alternative-rockers’ formation.
