Baldwin's Melanie Martinez advanced to the next round of “The Voice” last night, after an emotional performance of Ellie Goulding's “Lights” in the Battle Rounds.

The 17-year-old singer edged out Boston's Caitlin Michele in what judge Christina Aguilera called the day's “prettiest and most moving performance,” after both singers initially struggled with the song. Her team leader Adam Levine said he decided to go with Martinez because she “moved me the most from the beginning.”

Martinez responded by giving Levine a hug and telling him, “Thank you so much,” while fighting back tears. She had already made a strong impression on her mentor Mary J. Blige during rehearsals of the song. “I was completely shocked,” Blige said of Martinez's voice. “She looks like a little girl, but she has so much depth to her.”

With last night's win, Martinez moves to the show's round of 32 and will compete again next month. Michele also advanced, as both Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton wanted her for their teams after being cut from Levine's. She chose to go with Cee Lo.

UPDATE: Martinez's version of "Lights" seems to have struck a chord with fans, currently at No. 8 on iTunes Alternative chart.

Here's how the rest of the Battle Rounds went:

TEAM CEE LO: Domo vs. Cody Belew

Overconfidence can be a turn-off. Even on “The Voice.” The Bronx's Domo was a bit too much in her audition and while her performance of Lady Gaga's “Telephone” was good, it wasn't great enough to overcome her personality. Cody Belew, on the other hand, hit the right notes, both vocally and with his personality, which gave him the edge with his coach.

CEE LO'S PICK: Cody
SHOULD'VE WON: Cody

TEAM CHRISTINA: Aquile vs. Natalie Hernandez

Two of the early favorites, the smooth Aquile and the sweet Natalie Hernandez, handled James Morrison's “You Give Me Something,” giving it an entirely different vibe. Both were on point and deserved to move forward, though Aquile was more polished.

CHRISTINA'S PICK: Aquile
SHOULD'VE WON: Aquile

TEAM CHRISTINA: Celica Westbrook vs. Lisa Scinta

I was wondering how they were going to pack five battles in a single hour episode. It turns out they did it by not showing any run-up or discussion for two of them. They didn't even show the whole performance of Kelly Clarkson's “My Life Would Suck Without You.” Who deserved to win? Who knows?

CHRISTINA'S PICK: Celica
SHOULD'VE WON: ???

TEAM BLAKE: Rudy Parris vs. Charlie Rey

Another abbreviated battle over Daniel Powter's “Bad Day.”

BLAKE'S PICK: Rudy
SHOULD'VE WON: ???
