Nassau police have found the clothing and vehicle of Petros Krommidas, a Democratic candidate for the Nassau County Legislature who was last seen Wednesday.

Police confirmed Krommidas' vehicle was found parked near the Long Beach boardwalk and his clothing was found on the beach.

Additional details of the search were not immediately available, police said, citing the ongoing investigation by detectives from the Missing Person Squad. Krommidas, 29, was last seen at about 9 p.m. Wednesday at the home he shares with his parents in Baldwin.

“He’s a very loving boy,” said Carmen Frias, who has known Krommidas since he was a child and his family moved in across the street. "He’s very respectful, very nice.”

Police said Krommidas was reported missing on Thursday evening by his mother. His family believed he may have gone to the Long Beach area, where he loves to spend time on the boardwalk.

Police said foul play is not suspected at this time.

Krommidas is challenging incumbent Legis. Patrick Mullaney (R-Long Beach), who was elected to represent the district in 2023.

The Columbia University graduate is described as 6-foot-2, 230 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a camouflage print sweatshirt and gray sweatpants, police said.

It was not immediately clear if that is the clothing recovered at the beach or when that clothing was discovered by police.

In an emailed statement to Newsday, Nassau County and New York State Democratic Party Chair Jay Jacobs said Monday: "We are heartbroken over the disappearance of Petros Krommidas. Petros is a bright, driven young man who has been a strong voice for Democratic values. He is well respected by the community and represents the very best of our next generation of leaders. We are keeping Petros and his family in our prayers and remain hopeful for his safe return."

The election primaries are June 24, with the general election on Nov. 4.

The latest post from Krommidas on his campaign Facebook page is from Tuesday at 11:07 a.m.

It reads: "I had the opportunity to speak at last night's Nassau County Young Democrats monthly meeting alongside Joe Scianablo, who's running for Town of Hempstead Supervisor. Thank you to the Nassau County Young Democrats for having me — always great to be with such a thoughtful, engaged group committed to making a difference in our community."

It was not immediately clear what circumstances precipitated the missing persons report being filed, but police said investigators are asking anyone with information regarding Krommidas to call 911 or 516-573-7347.
