Wanda Sykes, 'Encanto,' Jackie Evancho coming to Staller Center
Jackie Evancho, jazz man John Pizzarelli and comedian Wanda Sykes are among the big names coming to the Staller Center at Stony Brook University next season.
On Friday, the venue announced its fall lineup, which will also include a concert by "Hamilton" Tony Award winner Renée Elise Goldsberry and an "Encanto" singalong.
Kicking off the season on Sept. 15 will be the Emerson Legacy Concert featuring former Emerson String Quartet members Phil Setzer on violin and cellist David Finckel who'll be joined by pianist Wu Han for an evening of Haydn, Beethoven and Dvorak.
Goldsberry follows on Sept. 21 for a night of songs from her many Broadway hits, including "Rent" and "The Color Purple." On Sept. 28, Pizzarelli takes the stage with his "Stage & Screen" concert of Broadway and film songs.
Oct. 14 brings a screening of "Encanto" which will feature a live Latin band performing the film's score as the audience sings along. The it's strictly for laughs when Sykes brings her brand of irreverent comedy to Stony Brook on Oct. 18.
Another highlight will be the Nov. 23 concert by vocal powerhouse Jackie Evancho, who first gained attention at age 10 in 2010 when she wowed the judges on "America's Got Talent."
Other shows on the schedule include the Argentine dance troupe Malevo (Oct. 26), Cirque Kalabanté starring Afrique en Cirque (Nov. 9), "Some Enchanted Evening With Stella Cole" (Nov. 13), The Peridance Contemporary Dance Company (Nov. 16), the chamber music recital "Starry Nights," the family show "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" (Nov. 24), "A Broadway Italian Christmas" starring Anthony Nunziata (Dec. 9) and Classical violinist Caroline Campbell (Dec. 14).
