Beyond TV: Celebrating Japanese culture
JAPAN FILMS Celebrating Japanese culture as part of New York's JapanNYC festival is the Paley Center for Media. This weekend, the Manhattan facility screens a collection of children's shows (Saturday at 1 p.m.), Leonard Bernstein with the New York Philharmonic in Japan (Saturday at 3 p.m.) and Kabuki ballet and bunraku puppets (Sunday at 3 p.m.). SPORTS DOCUMENTARIES Astoria's Museum of the Moving Image presents a series of weekend matinees focused on boxing, basketball, skateboarding, video games and more. This weekend's kickoff, Frederick Wiseman's "Boxing Gym," eyes adults and children training in Austin, Texas.
