Jessica Sanchez's Whitney Houston song blows Gwen Stefani away on 'American Idol'
Jessica Sanchez singing Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know" next on "American Idol." Guest mentor Gwen Stefani is blown away by her, gushes over how unbelievable her vocals are, when she's just 16.
Sanchez is headed for full divahood -- claims we're gonna hear her wild "alter ego," BB Chez, singing tonight.
Struts out there, surrounded by fans. She's sounding like Jennifer Hudson again, that nice, resonant tone, full of confidence.
Not amazing, just very professional and big. I don't think this was a great song choice, actually; it's repetitive, and she can only be derivative, nothing wildly creative this week from her.
Jennifer Lopez says "your vocals just make everything go away for me, can't believe they're coming out of that little body." Steven Tyler says, "I don't think I've ever heard you sing where I can judge you. Your vocals are just fantastic."
Randy Jackson says he got to work with Houston on the song, finishing with, "I can't believe the maturity you have."
Elise Testone and Phillip Phillips next do an indulgent duet version of Stevie Nicks' "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," it's like a contest to see who can milk the song the most. I guess they mesh in that way, but it's not that enjoyable for me.
Judges really like it; "very nice," says Jackson.
