So, what does Michael Chiklis do for a follow-up after playing one of the tube's most indelible characters, morally compromised L.A. detective Vic Mackey on "The Shield"?

How about a superdad?

Chiklis will star in the ABC drama pilot "No Ordinary Family," The Hollywood Reporter said last week. The show centers on an American family whose members have special abilities. Chiklis plays the clan's father. The role shouldn't be too much of a stretch for Chiklis - after all, he played a superhero (The Thing) in the "Fantastic Four" movie franchise.

And, of course, Chiklis has played a dad previously in his other series. Much of what Vic Mackey did on "The Shield" (2002-08) was motivated by his desire to provide for his three kids, two of whom were autistic. On "The Commish" (1991-95), his character, a Brooklyn-raised suburban police commissioner, dealt with crises on the home front (as well as the work front), especially with his teen son (Kaj-Erik Eriksen). And on the nearly forgotten "Daddio" (2000), he played an unemployed restaurant-supply salesman who was a stay-at-home dad to four kids while his lawyer wife brought home the bacon.
