Yvette Wilson, a standup and regular on "Moesha" and spinoff "The Parkers," has died, according to various reports. She was 48 and had been battling cervical cancer. There was an outpouring of grief for the young actress on Twitter, including this from Jamie Foxx. "God bless u Yvette Wilson. Tears in my eyes. Keep God laughing"
She played Andell, owner of a local hangout and was a key part of the cast on both shows; "Moesha," in particular, was a very hot property for UPN back in the day. (She got her first break on TV back in the early '90s on "In Living Color.")
There's been an unusual amount of tragedy on this show (as my colleague Shameka Dudley points out): Bernie Mac starred briefly as Andell's love interest, as did Lamont Bentley (Hakeem) who died in an auto accident in 2005 at age 31; and Merlin Santana (Ohagi) who died in 2002, at age 26.
Check out this old interview of the cast on "Rolanda;" Wilson appears 22 minutes in.
