Todrick Hall dances through, Jessica Furney tries to argue into 'American Idol' top 24 semifinals
Todrick Hall, who was with Fantasia in "The Color Purple" and who we discover has never had a singing lesson, says he's a dancer -- but here he is about to find out if he made "American Idol's" top 24 semifinalists.
He's really talented. I think he'll easily make it through. Kara tries to fake him out, then says, "Yes."
He says, "That's it?!" Calls his mom, celebrates, dances out, Simon's just looking at him stone-faced.
Jessica Furney, who based on the way they've edited the show is someone we're not suppose to like, is up next. Although on group night she forced them to let her sing her part, and she did well. A bit too much for me, but maybe this is what you need to make it in Hollywood . . .
Randy pretty quickly tells her she didn't make it. She tries to talk them into letting her through, "you have no idea what I can do," etc. "Do not send me home, I can do this," goes on and on. Nobody would vote for her after this. Simon just says "we're not going to change our mind."
She asks what she did wrong, Simon says, "you didn't sing as well as the others."
Ugh, it's enough. She's quite a jerk. Ellen is trying to be nice, this isn't it for you, it's not the end of the road; Jessica shoots back, "How do you know that? You don't know that."
Afterward she blames her group, even though she sang a couple more times after that for the judges. Uh, yeah . . . likeability is kind of a key quality on a show where people have to vote for you . . .
Seven people made it through tonight. Here's how I've got them ranked going into the men's and the women's semifinalists:
1) Todrick Hall; he's mad creative, has a lot of natural talent and a fun vibe;
2) Didi Benomie, whose best friend died, has a ton of heart and high likeability; and a great voice.
3) Aaron Kelly, the Backstreet Boyish teen who lacks experience but is super-sincere. there's a nice quality to him that I think will get him a good fan base;
4) Michael Lynche, whose wife just had a baby; maybe a bit too much exposure, but he has a big personality and a big voice;
5) Lee Dewyze, who has a great tone to his voice and who reminds me of Kris Allen for some reason;
6) Casey James, the guy who took his shirt off but who has an interesting voice and potentially lots of charisma;
7) Katelyn Epperly, whose dad walked out on them; not sure how charismatic she is, but she has a good look and lots of drive.
