'WKRP in Cincinnati' on DVD
WKRP IN CINCINNATI: COMPLETE SERIES
Sitcom Rock and roll revives an Ohio radio station in the MTM studio's beloved 1978 office-com -- Howard Hesseman and Tim Reid as wild DJs, Loni Anderson's untouchable receptionist, and other classic crazies. Savor the helicopter-fueled Thanksgiving promotion ("As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly") and some real-life reflection after 1979's Cincinnati concert stampede. Fans outraged by music replacements on 2007's season 1 DVD can now rejoice -- the vast majority of original songs have been cleared to appear here. (No Beatles or Pink Floyd, though. See changes tallied by hard-core fans at hometheaterforum.com.) Because "WKRP" was shot on videotape, it will never have high-def detail, but these discs look vibrant. (One video caution: season-to-season contrast shifts.) The four season sets come snugly stored in a hardcover slipcase.
Extras Wonderful new reunion panel with Hesseman, Reid, Anderson, creator Hugh Wilson, plus separate Gary Sandy interview.
List price $140 for 13 discs, on store shelves Tuesday from Shout.
