We met with Lifetime's "Dance Moms" stars Brooke, Chloe and Paige when they were in Manhattan recently.
Does this show affect your daily life a lot?
Paige: The show does, kind of, because whenever we go out in public there's, like, a bunch of fans, and we're not used to that.
Chloe: The show does affect our daily lives because school's a little bit different because we're filming all the time. So sometimes we have to get up early and we really don't have time to do anything else because we're always filming or traveling for the show. So it's kind of changed.
Brooke: We don't have any free time anymore.
Besides dance, what else do you do in your free time?
Paige: I like to shop.
Brooke: I sing and I just like to hang out with my friends, things that teenagers do.
Chloe: I like to act. I'm always reading, doing schoolwork. We just want to be normal in our free time.
What was your favorite group dance you have ever done?
Brooke: Mine [was] probably "Where Have the Children Gone," "Pink Lemonade" and the nationals' [competition] one, "Just Beat."
Chloe: I really liked "Where Have the Children Gone," "The Last Text," "Twilight." I also liked "Pink Lemonade." I also liked the nationals one, but I wasn't in it.
If you didn't do dance, what would you do?
Paige: I would probably do more modeling.
Chloe: I would probably do acting. I don't know -- try horseback riding, swimming.
Brooke: That's actually a tough question. I would probably do something for school. Yeah, I sing, but do a school activity. I can't imagine me playing soccer or anything like that. Gym class is not my forte.
Paige: I always dreamed about being a soccer player.
Do you guys not like competing against each other?
Brooke: I never competed against any of them. Not one of the girls on the team.
Chloe: We've been competing against each other for a long, long time, so I think by now we all know -- whoever wins, whatever happens -- we are still best friends.
Paige: I think even though we are competing against each other, because we go to the same studio, whenever they're practicing and they do something good, we try to do it better than them. So it also kind of makes us better dancers, but we know in the end it doesn't affect us at all.
Is it hard being on TV with new dances every week?
Paige: Yes, it's definitely a challenge because we go to school normally . . . we wake up early, go to school all day and go straight to dance, and then we have to do all of our homework at night. So it's a lot of work.
What is your favorite style of dance?
Paige: Mine is probably acro gymnastics.
Brooke: Mine is acro and dark numbers.
Chloe: I like dark numbers and lyrical and musical theater. Before the show ever happened, I always did musical theater.
What is your biggest obsession besides dance?
Brooke: All three of us are "Pretty Little Liars" fans.
What are your favorite duets?
Paige: Probably mine with Chloe because we've been waiting to do it since we were 2 years old when we started to dance. We've always been praying for it and now it has happened.
What's one of the craziest fan experiences that's ever happened?
Chloe: Probably when I walked into my house and there was a fan on my couch.
Paige: Melissa [Maddie and Mackenzie's mom] was in my backyard with my mom. None of my siblings were there -- just me. And someone rang the door and there was this little girl there and her older brother and sister. I thought they were, like, selling Girl Scout cookies, and I opened the door and they're, like, "Can we get a picture with you?" I was so scared and I started crying after, and I ran to the back. Some fans just came to our house and my mom's, like, "Paige don't open the door. They could have kidnapped you."
Who inspired you to dance?
Chloe: My mom kind of just stuck me in a dance class. I tried soccer. The only time I scored a goal in soccer was for the other team, so I don't do soccer anymore. I tried basketball and softball and I just didn't like it.
Paige: My mom danced when she was really little and she danced for . . . Abby's [Lee Miller] mom. And then my sister did it and my older brother did it so I was just like, "OK, well let's see if you like dancing." I kind of grew up in the studio because I was there for my brother and sister.
You guys are amazing dancers and you inspired so many people. How does it feel being a role model for so many girls?
Paige: It feels really good when people come up to us, because we're just regular kids.
Chloe: It's amazing when people come up to us and tell us that we're their inspiration and we're the reason they started dancing.
Brooke: It's kind of, like, nerve-racking, like, what if you do something wrong?
Paige: Because there's cameras in front of us all the time. You guys might have an embarrassing moment; ours is in front of, like, millions.
Chloe: My mom always says that now that we realized that we're kind of seen in the public eye, we always want to make the right decisions. Our friends are always, "Oh, why don't we do this?," and we're, like, "I don't think we should." We always have to watch out.
If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be?
Brooke: I'm kind of obsessed with Miley Cyrus.
Paige: I don't know. I'm kind of scared. Whenever I watch people on the Disney Channel, like, I like their character, and if I meet them in person, they're going to be mean and I'm going to be really upset.
