National Train Day
Choo! Choo! Saturday, May 12 is the Annual National Train Day celebration presented by Amtrak. The kickoff celebrations are taking place in New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles, featuring fun family-friendly events. Some of the activities include interactive and educational workshops teaching children how trains work, arts and crafts stations, tours of freight and commuter trains, Radio Disney and more.
The event in Manhattan is taking place at Grand Central Terminal from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will also feature culinary demonstrations and free samples from chef Roberto Santibanez as well as a 40th anniversary exhibit train which will include a locomotive, Bistro car and renovated baggage cars displaying historic advertising, uniforms, photos and memorabilia. "Trains have always been an important part of America's transportation legacy, and Amtrak has been America's Railroad for 40 years," said Emmet Fremauz, Amtrak vice president, Marketing and Product Development. "This past year, we had a record-breaking 30 million passengers enjoying the journey on our trains, and this year's National Train Day will celebrate the unique excitement and inspiration train travel offers.
