Visit Montauk Point Lighthouse for history and great views

Recently, my family went to the Montauk Point Lighthouse on the end of Long Island. It was a wonderful experience.
Did you know it is the first lighthouse built in the state, and the fourth active lighthouse in the United States? It was authorized by George Washington in 1792. Its construction took five months in 1796. There are 137 steps up to the top of the lighthouse. Its light flashes every five seconds. You can climb the lighthouse and then enjoy the beach next to it. If you’re lucky, you might see a seal.
There are lots of activities at Montauk Point State Park, such as fishing, golf, parasailing, horse riding and surfing. Captain Kidd is said to have buried treasure in a pond in the park. My favorite part of the trip was collecting seashells and rocks that were on the beach. Next time I go to the Montauk Lighthouse I would like to climb to the top.
Hours vary and are available at montauklighthouse.com. It is located at 200 Rte. 27, Montauk. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $4 for kids up to age 12. It’s a great place to go for a road trip.
