Long Islanders can help the George A. Jackson Elementary School in Jericho win the chance to host a visit from the 2016 Music In Our Schools — Music Inspires Tour by voting for the school by 2:59 a.m. Thursday at the Give a Note Foundation website giveanote.org/2016-mios-tour-semi-finalists/ and the Radio Disney app http://www.radiodisneyapp.com/.
The Give a Note Foundation, along with program partner Radio Disney, chose Jericho as a semi-finalist based on a 30- to 60-second video of an inspirational performance by the school. The Jericho schoolchildren performed “We Are the World,” with video of cello players, trombone players, choir members and more. Two schools from each of six regions were selected as semi-finalists. The Jericho school is pitted against the Frank E. Thompson Middle School in Newport, Rhode Island.
The winning school will be visited by Radio Disney artists who have yet to be determined, says Catherina Hurlburt, communications manager for the National Association for Music Education. The school also will receive a grant of at least $1,000, Hurlburt says.
