Backstage at the Badgley Mischka show held at the tents on Tuesday, Mark Badgley said, “We were inspired by the 1935 film version of ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream.’ It was black and white, and our colors are the way we thought it should be.”

Indeed, the dreamy runway and its soft palette of blush, ivory, lilac (one of the prettiest gowns we’ve seen this season turned out in this shade) conjured the fairies, flowers and magic of the story.

Several models wore tops with big shoulder poufs of lace that looked a bit like fairy wings. Giant 3-D rose bustiers topped sparkly gowns, and there was plenty of embellishment – a signature – on red carpet gowns. Gold Lurex was injected into close-fitting tweeds while some silos were easy and more casual – a chiffon top revealed a gilded bra beneath, worn with ivory boucle shorts

Wait …did we see sweatpants? Yep, but these were speckled with rhinestones. “We wanted a little more daywear,” James Mischka said. As for the bling?  “That's just us.”
