It’s not an April Fools' Day joke, but on April 1, Selden residents will officially become part of the Chick-fil-A universe, as the national chain, which is based in Atlanta, debuts its latest Suffolk store. The 11th Long Island outpost of the fast casual brand joins existing locations including Farmingville, Levittown, Commack, Hicksville and Farmingdale.

The opening will highlight the return of the Smokehouse BBQ Bacon Sandwich, which features a grilled chicken breast served on a toasted, buttered bun with Colby-Jack cheese, brown sugar and pepper-marinated bacon and lettuce, topped with barbecue sauce. New pineapple dragon fruit beverages come in iced tea, lemonade, Sunjoy (iced team-lemonade mix) and frosted lemonade varieties. These offerings are in addition to Chick-fil-A’s regular menu of chicken sandwiches, tenders, nuggets, salad, fries and shakes, with a side of Chick-fil-A’s tangy signature sauce — a mixture of honey mustard, barbecue and ranch.

Stan Abrahamsen is responsible for the new Selden store. Having lived in Suffolk County for 38 years, he also owns the Chick-fil-A restaurant in Port Jefferson Station, which was the first free-standing Chick-fil-A restaurant in New York state when it opened in 2015. Family-owned and privately held, the Chick-fil-A company was founded in 1967 by S. Truett Cathy.

Chick-fil-A Selden, 949 Middle Country Rd., Selden, chick-fil-a.com; Open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Closed Sunday.
