Cars are braking for the brand-new Emilia’s Bakehouse Café, which took over and transformed the dingy former digs of Wall Street Gold & Coin (“Cash for gold!”) on Route 110 (Walt Whitman Road) in Melville.

The sparkling shop sells a variety of breads and pastries as well as Georgio’s coffee (pulled, brewed and cold-brewed) and Harney & Sons tea.

Owner Mike Moreno is scion of the family that owns All Natural Bakery, a wholesale operation in Long Island City that supplies bread to the likes of Honu in Huntington, City Cellar in Westbury and Roast sandwich shop in Melville. Emilia’s, named for his great grandmother, gets deliveries from the mother ship twice daily.

There are baguettes and focaccia and semolina loaves; pound cake and muffins; croissants and Danish; rugelach, elephant ears and croissants and a house specialty (enjoyed by Pope Francis when he visited New York last year): pretzel croissants.

Parking out front can be tight; customers can also park, until 5 p.m., in the lot of the neighboring restaurant La Fontana.
