Huntington’s sole Portuguese restaurant and one of its cutest eateries, Fado, will close its doors on Sunday, according to owner Alison Nobre.
“It is time to share some sad news,” Nobre wrote in a March 8 Facebook post announcing the closure. “It has been a long time coming, for many reasons, and the journey has gone on as long as it could.”
Nobre and her husband, Eduardo Nobre, opened Fado at 10 New St. seven years ago, bringing nouveau Portuguese cuisine to Huntington village with dishes such as caldo verde soup, bacalhãu a bras (salt cod tossed with potato, onions, eggs, olives and herbs) and roasted chicken with piri-piri cream sauce.
Eduardo Nobre has lived in Portugal for several years, wrote Alison Nobre. Though she has not been available for comment, Nobre plans to resurrect the Chicken Coop, a takeout spot for Portuguese-style roasted chicken, which closed on Gerard Street in 2014 but will reopen on Route 25A in Centerport later this year.
